What Nourished is on now, 10th Dec. Yolanda, 10/12/201610/12/2016 These are a few of the food and nutrition-related items that caught my attention these days. If you have suggestions of your own please feel free to send links to contact@nourished.info. With the recent death of Fidel Castro, it is interesting to think about some of the ways in which Cuba has been at the front of experiments in all kinds of social policies, including some related to food. These days many have written about it, and articles like Cuba’s Harvest of Surprises reminded me to retake my interest in pioneering examples of urban, sustainable permaculture and food security. I also came across Cooked, a 4 chapter documentary series for Netflix by Michael Pollain. I thought chapter two and three were the most interesting wrapping up different issues from agriculture to food chemistry. I then got inspired and made my first bread loaf. You can see the result here. Wanting to learn a bit more about what has been written about Hunza’s health, diet and lifestyle, this week I started reading Hunza. Lost Kingdom of the Himalayas, John Clark’s experience in the 1950s in Pakistan. His running of a medical dispensary and detailed descriptions of life, including diet, provide information that doesn’t fit the image of excellent health and eternal youth as reported by some. Will be looking into this and more about ancient diets. And just yesterday found this newspaper article (in Catalan) about an interesting study researching evidence of genetic modification due to severe hunger and how it can linger through up to three generations after. A thread I’ll follow in the coming weeks. Share this:TweetEmail On now
