Biological nutritional anthropology, with theoretical roots in nutritional science, epidemiology and medicine, focuses on the health parameters and consequences of environmental conditions, agricultural practices, food processing techniques, culturally-determined interactions with resources and health constraints, and individual capacities to absorb and utilize particular nutrients.

Malnutrition and associated disease is an immense contributor to deaths and disabilities worldwide. There are many diseases associated with dietary patterns but also fairly unknown food-borne epidemics as a consequence of food insecurity and vulnerable populations’ coping mechanisms. What we drink and breathe are also part of our nutrition and essential to health.
